Episode 13 - Sherlock Holmes and the Giant Rat of Sumatra

With original scripts written by Playwright, Phil Grecian, performed by the talented cast and crew of the Air Command, and produced for television by KTWU, we feature a unique fine arts performance not seen anywhere else around the country. Theater of the Mind is radio you can see. We take the 1940's-style radio plays of yesteryear and make them visual.

Episode 12 - Midnight Tales In Shadow Wood

Gather 'round the fire and shiver at these tales of urban legends and their mysterious spirits. KTWU presents another radio play drama, in partnership with Playwright, Phil Grecian. Theater of the Mind is radio you can see, with actors playing multiple roles, utilizing vintage microphones and performing sound effects right in front of your eyes, to simulate radio's Golden Age.

Episode 11 - Ghosts of the Elysian Arms

It is a stormy night on Highway One in the summer of 1940, and Al Geery's Studebaker Dictator smashes into a Plymouth convertible head on. Mr. Geery is surprised to wake up unscathed in the twisted wreckage of his automobile, and even more surprised when the mysterious Mr. Maro escorts him to the towering Elysian Arms Hotel, where each room is occupied by a singular and frightening story.

Episode 10 - Call of the Mummy

It's 1941, an archaeological party has discovered two mummies in the long sought after tomb of Hatshepsut, who ruled as pharaoh in the 18th Dynasty. When a young British chanteuse answers the call of the mummy and is kidnapped through arcane forces, the chase begins along a trail of murder and an ancient curse.

Episode 9 - Werewolf Of The Bayou

It is 1940, and ace newspaper reporter Margo Mason heads to the Louisiana swamps to investigate a series of strange murders and an ancient curse centered around an archaeological dig and a strange skeleton unearthed: The body of a human, the head of a wolf. The local swamp witch says it's the rougarou werewolf, returned for vengeance. But who is the werewolf? And who will be its next victim?

Episode 8 - Trilogy of Terror
First Aired: September. 13,2015

Performed in the style of an old time radio drama, Trilogy of Terror features original plays based on three classic horror tales. "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe, "The Cats of Ulthar" by H.P. Lovecraft and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving. Performed in front of a live, studio audience with actors playing multiple roles and live sound effects.

Episode 7 - The Invisible Man
First Aired: September. 26,2014

Set in the village of Iping, in a blinding snowstorm, a stranger arrives at the Coach & Horse Inn demanding a room. His head is bandaged and his eyes concealed behind blue goggles. His possessions arrive the following day-- scores of strange glass bottles and boxes of books. When the landlady begins to make inquiries, the stranger loses his temper, strips off his wrappings and is--invisible.

Episode 6 - The Black Cat
First Aired: December. 31,2013

Mysterious and macabre writings of Edgar Allan Poe form the basis for "Twisted Tales of Poe," 1940's-style radio adaptations, complete with musical accompaniment and a live crew creating all of the sound effects while you watch! The actors play multiple roles and employ vintage microphones to simulate radio's Golden Age.

Three mysterious and macabre tales from Edgar Allan Poe form the basis of TWISTED TALES OF POE presented like a live radio-style drama. The three classic stories are “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” and “The Raven.”

This beloved Dickens' tale was adapted to a classic 1940's-style radio drama by playwright Phil Grecian and was recorded live with an audience in the KTWU studios.

Episode 3 - Hound of the Baskervilles
First Aired: October. 16,2011

The howl of the spectral hound casts a chilly terror across viewers watching the classic Sherlock Holmes story as it plays out live on television, but presented as if the year is 1940 and everyone is inside a typical radio station studio. A performance features radio-style actors and spectacular, handmade sound effects can be experienced when A.R.T.S., Inc. presents the Karen Hastings Players.

Episode 2 - Frankenstein
First Aired: October. 26,2010

Victor Frankenstein set out to create life – using corpses stolen from graveyards. During a raging storm, he is successful but, too late, realizes he has created a misshapen, inarticulate horror. And so begins a haunting tale of creature vs. creator, in KTWU’s local production - 1940’s radio-style drama from A.R.T.S., Inc.

KTWU-TV presents "Dracula." It's radio you can see, complete with actors, music and a crew of sound effects The radio drama presents an audio-adaptation of the classic horror tale by Philip Grecian. A set that mimics a 1940's radio stage, complete with sound effects equipment, has been assembled in the KTWU-TV studios on the Washburn University campus.
